The main attraction of Torres del Paine National Park, Biosphere Reserve, are its famous mountains, sure they have seen portrayed in dozens of postcards. But also surprises with its large trekking circuits through forests, hills, waterfalls and lakes, unique landscapes that are accompanied by the white veil of the Southern Ice Field.

In summer you can enjoy in many ways the over seventeen hours of daylight, for example look Torres del Paine are dyed by Magallanes sun in the morning. Sailing on Gray lake to the front of Gray Glacier, admiring this mass of ice, or kayaking among enormous blue and white icebergs.

While the best views and environments are demanding a greater sacrifice to reach, you can also find much of its major attractions by car, thanks to nearly 100 kilometers of track running through landscapes ranging from the steppe to the forest in Torres del Paine park. It is the perfect choice for those wishing to combine short walks and a good rest in its varied range of accommodation, ranging from 5 star hotels to comfortable shelters and excellent campings. Even glamping may be preferred, which consists of camping outdoors, but with the comforts and details of a good hotel.

The possibility to close-up animals is another major attraction of this park. The fauna, not feeling threatened by humans, not flee before his presence, allowing you to take pictures few meters away from guanacos, rheas, foxes, huemules and, with luck, pumas.

How to get there

By Bus. There are daily departures from Puerto Natales, at 07:30 and 14:30. However, in November, March and April buses only depart in the morning.

By Car. You can reach Torres del Paine throughout the year from Puerto Natales. The most popular route is 154 km (60 are paved) and reach Sarmiento and Laguna Amarga lodges. Recently opened a new path, the Y-290, whit eighty kilometers, is completely rubbled and get to Serrano lodge.

Attractions and Activities

If you do not have much time in Torres del Paine, it is best opt to hiking or trekking on "W"  trails. They are little more than seventy-six kilometers in four days to enjoy the major attractions of Torres del Paine, and the rocky roads to Mirador de las Torres, Los Cuernos refuge and its condor visitors, the incessant breaks rumor at French glacier and the awaited final at Grey Glacier.

On the other hand, a week take finish the 93 km full circuit, also called the "O". Although you can start from Laguna Amarga as "W", the "O" involves the Paine Massif also touring the northern end, giving the privilege of meeting places such as Paso John Garner, a place of the highest altitude of the circuit, with 1,350 meters has a unique view of the Southern Ice Field.

Finally you have the chance to make special trips, such as Pingo Valley, a less popular destination where there is a lake with icebergs and beech forests and coigües, a scenario ideal for photographic image hunters, or to practice birdwatching.
